Backgammon

Backgammon is one of the most widely spread racing table games in the world and on the internet. (the object of the game is to reach a certain position on the table or to bear off all pieces)

The game is played with pieces called stones or checkers, a pair of dice (used to generate random numbers which then determine the moves the players can make) and a rectangular board on which the actual game takes place.

This board features alternatively colored triangles which denote certain areas wehre players can move around with their checkers.

The rules of the game are fairly easy to learn, any beginner can reach a level of reasonable proficiency within a few games, though  - since it is at least as much a game of skill as it is of chance  - players can improve over time by learning intricate ways to attack their opponent’s checkers, and to figure out dice-odds.

The online spread of this game was somewhat facilitated by the law ruling online poker illegal (although it’s very similar in nature to backgammon), and now there are quite a few online backgammon sites offering this game in a variety of forms and variants.
