Betting on Soccer

On a world-wide level, soccer is probably the most popular sport people wager money on. Remember, that the popularity of the NFL never really caught on anywhere outside of the US, however, soccer is a truly global sport.

In order to make the most of your soccer betting endeavor, first thing’s first: you have to know the types of bets available, as there plenty such bets in soccer:

-         The most common type of soccer bet is betting the money line, a.k.a. match odds. In this type of bet you try to predict the outcome of the game. You bet 1 if you reckon the home team will win, 2 if you consider the away team the favorite and X if you think the game will end in a draw. Each result comes with an odds multiplier posted by the bookmaker. If your result turns out a winner, you’ll have the money you wagered on the match-up multiplied by this number, and you’ll get the resulting money on top of you initial wager.

-         A single bet is where you only wager on one game at a time, using the above rules

-         A multiple is when several of the results you bet on are combined. This is an excellent way to earn a better return, but you’d better whip your handicapping into shape, because you only win if all the bets in your multiple are winners.

-         The double is the most popular multiple, and yes, you’ve guessed it, it contains two games you’ll wager on.

-         A treble is the same as a double, only it contains three games. Added risks, added return.

-         The goal line is when you bet on whether the total number of goals scored during a game goes over or stays under a certain pre-set limit (2,5 for example)

-         Half time bet. You bet on the first half of the game as if it were a whole game in itself. The result at the break is your final result.

-         First goal scorer. I suppose this one speaks for itself.

-         Last goal scorer. Likewise

-         Anytime goal scorer. The question here is, whether the player you’ve picked will score during the game at all, or not.

These are a few of the types of bets you’ll become familiar with, if you become a soccer bettor. Mind you that your local bookie may always come up with more inventive ways to entice his clients to bet more.
