Poker rules
There are countless poker variants out there, some played online, some only in certain casinos, and some stuck on a home-game level. They can all be classified into three main groups: Community card poker, Stud poker, and Draw poker.
Community card poker is the most popular these days, and out of all the community card games, Texas Holdem is the most widely spread one.
With that said, let’s take a closer look at the rules of this game:
Texas Holdem is played with blinds instead of antes and bring-ins. That means two players will have to place set amounts of money in the pot, in the blind, that is before they receive any cards.
There’s the big blind and the small blind, with the small blind being exactly half of the big one. The small blind is on the immediate left of the dealer button and the BB in on his immediate left.
This means, that as the dealer button goes around the table in a clock-wise direction, so will the blinds, thus sooner or later, everyone will get their turn in being in the BB and then the SB. The dealer gives everyone two hole cards (face down ones that no one can see but the person they were dealt to) This is followed by a round of betting.
After the first betting round, three community cards are dealt onto the table for all to see, followed by another betting round.
Players will make their hands using the two hole-cards they got, (one or both of them) and 3 or 4 of the community cards.
The post-flop betting round is followed by another community card, called the turn, which is again, followed by betting.
The last community card (river) is followed by the last betting round, and then the showdown. Whoever has the best poker hand at showdown, takes the pot.
