Poker Chips

Poker chips are the one poker accessory no poker game can take place without. Sure you could use matchsticks instead of chips, but – first of all – that’d look awful and nobody you’d invite over for a friendly game of poker would be impressed, second, keeping track of who’s got what and how much, would be a king size pain in the neck.

This is exactly why most people buy a set of poker chips and use them instead of all sorts of household items.

There are differences between poker chips and poker chips though. if you expect to find real casino chips for sale, forget about it. Real casino chips are like currency inside the casino, and they’re treated like that too. You could walk away with a few chips in your pocket, if you really wanted to take home a souvenir, but that’d be stupid because: you probably wouldn’t be able to cash in those chips for anything else than their minimal value, even if you returned them. Second, because a couple of chips would be of no use for you anyway.

Also there’s a lot of hype going on about how 100% clay chips are the only genuine deal. Forget about those too. There are no 100% clay chips out here, for several reasons. The main problem with clay chips is that they’re just not resistant enough. Poker chips are subjected to a lot of wear and tear, especially by players who show off their chip tricks all the time.

Real clay chips wouldn’t be able to handle that.

Poker chips are usually made of a clay composite, with added resin, and some of them even have a metal insert in the middle to lend them weight.

Naturally, there are chips made out of your everyday “el-cheapo” plastic too, so whenever you buy chips make sure you get the composite ones rather than some plastic crap.
