Flash games

Few gamers grasp the fact that development in the gaming industry, (whether it’s online gaming or offline games we’re talking about) has come at a pretty big price. The price is not paid solely by the consumer, who needs to invest more into his system back home, in order to support the advances in technology, there’s a hidden aspect to the phenomenon as well.

The hundreds of thousands of polygons, detailed textures and sometimes quite inhumanly complicated levels need to be created by someone piece by piece, bit by bit. To create a competitive video game these days is no longer a cheap endeavor. No wonder, some game developers, who feel they’re no longer able to keep up this infernal pace, have turned their attention to casual games.

What are casual games? Small bits of software that offer a few hours of fun, at a more than reasonable price, or – in some cases – completely free, and which – by their nature – need to satisfy the following requirements:

-         they have to be small in size, so that downloading them won’t be a problem even for those on a slow connection, or they have to be run from the web, without any download whatsoever.

-         they need to be interesting, so that hey capture the attention would-be players

-         they have to eliminate the need for fancy APIs on the user’s system.

-         System requirements have to be extremely small.

If you look at things like that, it’ll be obvious that Flash games are the answer. Given the fact that the platform has evolved leaps and bounds lately, and that the need for such games is certainly there, I’d say there’s a bright future in store for Flash games.
